Backing up to external storage like a flash drive using the included OTG adapter with the OnePlus 12 seems to be broken. It will complete the backup but if I go and try to use it if says it's not compatible. Backups made to the phone work. But that's kind of pointless. And the directions to copy that folder in that weird location is way more confusing than it needs to be. This is one thing I miss from Samsung. Their smart switch app. They make a simple windows app to back up to PC.

When I first did the transfer relying on Google alone many things got transferred like apps and photos but many things were different. I have 300+ apps installed and on the old phone were organized in a meaningful way. On the new phone they were not organized at all. I couldn't find anything. Also many s went missing. It was a nightmare that would take me weeks to clean up. Then I discovered Clone phone. I had it installed on the old phone as well. It synced everything perfectly. OP9->12

Did exactly what it said it would do. I've gone from the original one plus to a one plus 6 and everything transferred. My friends were especially fascinated by the 'removal men' at the bottom of the screen ing the files from the old phone over to the new phone! The transfer really slowed down at the end though. But overall, a very easy way.

Took ten tries to get side by side phone to connect. Then the app just sits and spins without ever transferring anything. Restarted multiple times with same result. I was attempting to send data from my old android to my new OnePlus. The T-Mobile rep had the same experience. Update: I have since tried with narrowing down what is being sent to just one item (e.g., video) and have gotten that to work. App data doesn't work at all. Tried multiple times to send data. My old phone says it's sent, my new phone doesn't have it. Note to the developers: having to scan a barcode twice to get the transfer started is really confusing. It looks like you're starting the app over again, which leads to frustration. The barcode network connection never worked for me; I had to manually go to my old phone's wifi and connect to the new phone's hotspot network that way. Overall, still a poor intro to the OnePlus, which is a nice phone.

Very easy to use. Transfer large amount of data from my old Android to this brand new 9 Pro. They didn't use my WiFi but established a direct wireless connection between two phones and 138GB data done in just over 1 hour. All the photos, call logs, SMS, and apps are moved. Only painful thing is to to the apps, like authenticators, banks, social media, games etc which took me more than 2 days to finish because some need to make phone call to those organisations.

Update Aug 2020. From Oneplus 6 to Nord. Reasonably smooth. 1 crash, but I think that was the OP6, as its been showing its age. Otherwise fine. Took 5 hours though. Transferring from oneplus 2. It stopped about a quarter way through, and even though I tried leaving it overnight, it still hasn't moved on. Restarted both phones. Can open app on OP2, but the only option on the OP6 is to uninstall. Why can't I find it in my apps without a search and why can't I open it? Not good. Please fix.

TECHNICALLY WORKS. If you are reading this, enable airplane mode on both devices before transferring. If transfer gets stuck, pause (stop) and continue; keep doing this each time it gets stuck and it should be progressing. If it keeps getting stuck at like 99% or 100% or at 0.00B, then it may not move past this point--this happened to me and for some reason, 4 of my many thousands of messages would never migrate. Everything else appeared to migrate though. I spent several hours debugging and researching this process. It really only took an hour of transfer time maybe.

Fast bluetooth transfer. If you're thinking of deleting some unwanted pictures and videos, doing it prior to transfer is advisable. It will be faster, reduce the amount of heat produced during transfer, and it will insure that the files you DO save will be stored and accessed most efficiently. (If you delete files (on the new phone) after transferring them, the new phone will have fragmented storage.
