PianoMeter is a piano tuning app that will transform your Android device into a professional quality electronic tuning aid.NOTE
The "free" version of this app is primarily for evaluation, and it only allows you to tune notes on the piano between C3 and C5. To tune the entire piano you will need to buy an upgrade through an in-app purchase.
What makes PianoMeter unique
Unlike regular chromatic tuning apps that simply tune to a pre-calculated equal temperament, this app actively measures the tonal characteristics of each note and automatically calculates the ideal “stretch” or offset from equal temperament. In other words, it creates a custom tuning for your piano with the best compromise between intervals like fifths, fourths, octaves, and twelfths, the way aural piano tuners do when fine-tuning.
Functionality and pricing
There are three levels of functionality: a free (evaluation) version, a paid "plus" version with basic tuning functionality, and a "professional" version with features geared towards professional piano tuners. The extra functionality is unlocked through one-time in-app purchases.
The Free version includes the following functionality:
• Tuning functionality for the mid-range of the piano only
• Automatic note detection
• Ability to measure each note on the piano to see how its current tuning compares to the ideal tuning curve (see if a piano is roughly in tune)
• Swipe in the graphing area to show a live frequency spectrum or the inharmonicity of measured notes.
Upgrading to "Plus" adds the following functionality:
• Tuning functionality for the entire piano
• Tune to frequency standards other than A=440
• Tune to historical or custom temperaments
• Calibrate device to an external frequency source
Upgrading to Professional unlocks all features of the "Plus" version, plus the following:
• Save and load tuning files, so a piano doesn't need to be re-measured each time it is tuned
• Pitch raise mode that calculates overpull for an initial first "rough" tuning (for pianos that are extremely flat)
• Custom tuning styles: create a custom tuning curve by adjusting interval weighting and stretch
• Access to all future features and enhancements
Upgrade costs:
Free to Plus (approximately US$30)
Free to Pro (approximately US$350)
Plus to Pro (approximately US$320)

I bought the app about a month ago and have really enjoyed using it for my tuning work. Once I learned the basic controls, it's been very easy to use. However today for some reason the pitch raise feature just wouldn't work. I've used it a few times before with excellent results, but today after I selected pitch raise, entered the sample notes, and pressed the "start pitch raise" button, the app defaulted to just standard pitch tuning. I tried it three times, but with the same result each time.

After years of tuning by ear but also with Tunelab and Verituner, I switched to the Pianometer plus package six years ago. Initially I thought it was too cheap to be good but I was wrong. The pro version offers little extra functionality for the money. It is an extensive professional tool that works very intuitively. Just like with Tunelab, the app does not work optimally in step mode, the correct octave often gets lost. I understand that an update is on its way.

unexpected excellence--RPT for 49 years before I tried ETD software. With proper tuning lever technique by me, this app gets unisons as pure as I can aurally. By the end of the tuning on a high quality piano, we agreed on the stretch, too. The biggest advantage is that this app shows changes immediately (faster and more accurately than aural checks) when a wire slips while I am working. The results remained accurate for every note on the piano.

This is a fantastic tuner! I have reconditioned and tuned pianos for decades. The only tuning aid I had ever used was a StroboConn (which will give you an idea of how many decades :-). This tool did a nice job. I wanted to stretch more, but I actually like this result. One question that I have is the pattern of the partials on the strobe. From my StroboConn I expect the upper partials to rotate clockwise relative to the fundamental because they are sharp. On piano meter they go ccw. Why?

Amazing! I'm a professional piano tuner. I used to tune the middle with a strobe tuner and the highs and lows by ear (electronic tuners don't do the highs and lows right). This app does the whole piano! (Except the top couple notes on a junk piano). It automatically figures out how much stretch each piano needs. It's cut a good 20 minutes off my time. TIP: Use a mic to catch the top octive. Con: It seems to get confused when you take it out of step mode. I would take off a half star for this.

I find the app and tuning works as d which is also why I have bought the plus version for private use. Keeping in mind that mobile phones don't have the best microphones and different models behave differently, hence why I use an external microphone for better range. There are no annoying add which is a plus. One thing that would be nice for private people with two pianos, is to be able to save the two tuning files. Overall very pleased.

I had zero piano tuning experience. But after reading the Help session carefully and some patience, I tuned my upright Schimmel today. The piano was out of tune badly since it hasn't been tuned for 10 years. Now it sounds great. I use the upgraded plus version. The app is amazing. It can figure out the equal temperament curve for your piano and next just tune each key to the curve. I believe that in the high and low range, the app is a lot easier and more accurate than an amatuer ear.

With this app I was able to tune my piano for my first time. It wasn't tuned for over three years and all notes were flat by 10 to 45 cents. I performed a first to get the piano close (within a cent) to the tuning curve (it took over 5 hours for me to complete the first , but with this app I was confident the whole way). I like how the graph shows the current note versus the ideal tuning curve and the spinning flat/sharp circles which adds a visual component to tuning. Thanks!!
